Porek - Baby Leek's Polish Name

Baby Leek’s Polish name is Porek! One of the things I never would have imagined is having a Polish edition of Baby Leek. Ok maybe somewhere in my imagination I secretly dream that my books will be translated into lots of different languages some day for kids all over the world. But even if Baby Starry Leek is available in another language, you would have thought it would be Chinese or Japanese right? (Considering the fact that I studied these two languages in University. )

But Porek was born out of love and serendipity. Alex is my good friend from my painting group. She’s Polish but has been living in Singapore for over half her life. The idea to translate Baby Leek was born out of the desire to read the book to her super cute grandson Adam (who is still a baby now, but will grow up with love and stories). And so Porek was born.

It was harder than I thought it would be. We discussed back and forth, emailed, whatsapped, zoom meeting, shared documents, bickered over words, and I had to realign paragraphs, redraw, hand-draw in all the Polish accent marks and lots more.. We went through countless rounds of revisions, vetting, final vetting, editing and vetting again. But it’s out now, a labour of lots and lots of love.
